Hermeneutic Reading of Paul Ricoeur's Suspicion in Ujub Mantra Ganti Langse Ceremony Function Higher Education
Abstract
This study aims to reveal the symbolic meaning and mythologization of Prabu Brawijaya in the ujub mantra text of the Ganti Langse traditional ceremony at Palenggahan Ageng Srigati. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through document analysis of the ujub mantra text written by Suwardi. Data analysis employed Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics of suspicion, including stages of data segmentation, coding, interpretation, and synthesis. The results show that the ujub mantra contains symbolic structures that function to mythologize and mystify the figure of Prabu Brawijaya as a center of cultural authority, constructed through literary narratives and collective beliefs rather than historical facts. These findings indicate that the mantra operates as a medium of ideological representation and cultural legitimation.
