MORALISASI ELOKKELONG DALAM SASTRA BUGIS (The Moralization of “Elokkelong” in Buginese Literature)

Abstract

The moralization of “elokkelong” in Buginese literature expresses life guidance for Buginese society in
running life. This research aims to describe the moralization of “elokkelong” in Buginese literature. In relation
to the aim, the writer applies descriptive analysis method through moral approach and also applies reading-
listening technique and content analysis. The data is a number of “elokkelong” in Buginese literature. The
“elokkelong” was documented by Balai Penelitian Bahasa, Pusat Pembinaan dan Pengembangan Bahasa,
Departemen Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan at Ujung Pandang in 1995. The result of the analysis shows that the
moralization of “elokkelong” in Buginese literature involves life guidances for Buginese society, such as: (1)
holding high the trust given, (2) leading in wise and responsible way, (3) being loyal in human relationship,
(4) being firm in encouraging togetherness, (5) considering well before making decision, (6) being honest, and
(7) struggling for the desire.
