TRANSFORMASI IDEOLOGI LEGENDA GUNUNG TANGKUBAN PARAHU KE DALAM DRAMA SANGKURIANG ~ DAYANG SUMBI DAN SANG KURIANG KARYA UTUY TATANG SONTANI (Ideology Transformation of Tangkuban Parahu Legend into Dramas of Sangkuriang~Dayang Sumbi and Sang Kuriang by Utuy Utut Tatang Sontani)
Abstract
This paper discusses about two dramas by Utuy Tatang Sontani, which are Sangkuriang – Dayang Sumbi (1953) and Sang Kuriang (1959). Although the two dramas are originated from the same folklore, but the texts are written in two different periods. Hence, it is possible that the two dramas conceive of differrent ideologies. This mainly because the second drama -Sang Kuriang- was written after the author declared his affiliation with PKI (Indonesian Communist Party) through his membership in Lekra in 1959. The research results show there are many changes found from the first drama to the second drama, which include all elements of the drama, namely form, way of naming, number of characters, description of characters, background, plot, and theme. This change is interpreted by the meaning of the second level (connotation) in the Barthes’s semiotic framework. The analysis results show that the changes in the both texts are ideological which emphasize the importance of human existence through the ideology of atheism and class differences.
